About Us

[Rainbow Rule]

The Washington Area Computer User Group is an all-volunteer Virginia membership corporation established in 1985 to further the use and understanding of computers. WACUG is an IRS-recognized, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, to which tax-deductible contributions may be made. Our Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, and Board of Directors Meeting Minutes are available for public review.

WAC holds monthly meetings, maintains a library of freely distributable software available at nominal cost ($3/disk set for members, $4/disk set for non-members or US mail to members), and publishes a monthly newsletter, The Cursor.

Originally formed to support the venerable Commodore 64, WAC has expanded its scope over time to include the Amiga line of computers and IBM PC compatibles. We currently have active Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to support Microsoft Windows and GNU/Linux operating systems. However, anyone is welcome to join, add expertise to the group, and sponsor new SIGs. We consider diversity to be our greatest strength since it allows us to address many problems other user groups can't handle. Porting data files from one system to another is an example. Here is where you get the one-on-one level of support that most vendors don't provide! Topics covered by our SIGs include Desktop Video, Desktop Publishing, Graphics and Animation, Music, Games, Telecommunications and the Internet, Financial and Tax Preparation software, CAD, hardware, and more!

Our Current Line-up of SIGs include:

Of course, none of this would happen without our Board of Directors, volunteers, and members. We invite you to join us!
