Washington Area Commodore User Group Minutes of the Board of Directors Meeting 21 August 1999 Board Meeting Attendance - Lance Cutlar, Jorn Dakin, Geof Goodrum, Bob Mason, Kathy Perrin, Lu Spriggs, Mike ten Kate, and Bill Walsh Minutes - Minutes from the June board meeting (no board meeting was held in July) were distributed and read. Minutes were approved without amendment. Comments on General Meeting - Good meeting on desktop publishing with demos presented by Geof Goodrum and Kathy Perrin. Bob Mason's scheduled presentation on Microsoft Publisher had to be postponed due to technical difficulties. Attendance at General Meeting - A little on the low side at 21. Treasurer's Report - Reports for May, June, and July were presented and accepted without amendment. Disk Sales/Membership Status - July estimated disk sales came to $47. August disk sales came to $27. Total membership now stands at 63. General Discussion - Geof noted that we need a review from Alex Goodale of Disk Keeper from PowerQuest. Geof said he will contact Alex about this review and volunteered to prepare the review himself if necessary. Bob agreed to follow-up with MalekTips (a web-based computer tips site) which has offered to make its tips available for publication in our newsletter in return for a link to the site on our web page. Geof noted that the review of the club's insurance policy is completed and we will not seek coverage for members of the board. We still have not received a positive response from Erols regarding our request for web and email hosting. Geof noted that he had contacted PatriotNet regarding an account but has received no response. He said he would follow-up with a written letter. Geof added we may have to start thinking about an APCUG account as a back-up option. It was noted that since the club is a 501(c), the donating ISP could deduct the value of provided services. Geof noted that he completed and mailed back the application to join Corel's Linux support group. Mike ten Kate will look into an offer from ZDTV to provide user groups with a free Netcam to provide live or taped feeds for ZDTV. Bob mentioned that he is looking for volunteers to assist with his Learning Center Partnership (a computer training class for local area youth) which he is running for the county. Bob said he would prepare a statement for inclusion in the Cursor. Future Meetings - The September meeting will include a presentation by Media General on the RoadRunner broadband Internet access service, a demo of Microsoft Publisher by Bob (Lance Cutlar has this program loaded on his machine and will bring his box to the September meeting), and a demo of QuickCam. Activities for later meetings include a presentation on holiday gift ideas by a Microsoft representative, a demo of WinTV by Geof, a demo by Bill Walsh of CD read/write technology, and a possible presentation by a Hewlett-Packard representative (Mike will contact). Plans for the November meeting will be finalized at the board meeting in September Meeting adjourned
